Gas Bottle Tap Leak

Evening all.

My R-Tech Tig arrived today along with a Rent free bottle from *removed for legal reasons*.

I've just put it all together but when I turn on the tap on the gas bottle the tap moves upwards by a couple of mm and I get quite a gas leak around my fingers which feels like it is coming from under the black handle.


This may seem like a silly question but am I doing anything wrong or should I write this off as a bad bottle? Everything was sealed correctly on delivery and all the anti-tamper labels were undamaged.

a bit of soapy water with a paintbrush round the joints and if it is the bottle faulty ring them up and get it exchanged

Oh you can tell its the bottle. I don't need soapy water tell me there is something seriously wrong with that bottle tap. Open that tap and it's like a hurricane. All regulator seals are fine and the peashooter flow works great too.

I would take it back, and take your regulator with you so you can demonstrate the problem just in case they don't believe you.
Do it sooner rather than later, if you take it back empty it's pushing things a little!

What is your opinion regardig using soapy water,I was told that some types of soap might have oil in them and,as you know,oil and Oxygen don`t mix.

Argon Gas bottle changed. R-Tech offered to collect and replace for Monday or I could bring it to their business unit. As I'm only 15 miles away and wanted to try welding at the weekend I did a personal visit/swap.

You really should only use propriety leak detection fluid, as you said some washing up liquid has lanolin in it which as far as I am aware is sheep fat, you really don't want to be mixing oxygen with anything with oil/grease in it as it can go bang in a very big way.
The other reason is most washing up liquids have a fairly high salt content so if you don't wipe off all the residue you can get corrosion starting
