Gas Forge and induction T burner

Built this forge today 42 grade alumina brick lined with 6 mm plate casing. Had the burner bits for many months awaiting a start and just rediscovered them last week.
With 160 spindles to fish tail and scroll I thought it was time for action.
Runs real nice on propane run through a 1mm mig tip, takes a few minutes but can be putting ten in each heat. Much less faff than I thought it was going to be, biggest hassle was driving to skelmersdale for the brick and fire cement.
Recon it cost me less than £200 in all the stuff and maybe 10-12 hours.

All adapted pipe fittings. Only thing I changed was cutting a whole in the T and welding in a straight coupler. Also drilling and tapping a stop end m6 to take the binsel mig tips I keep. Oh there is another coupler in the forge casing top to take the burner

Thanks for that. I was thinking of using an old gas bottle but using bricks and building a cube actually looks considerably easier than working with castable refractory. Easy the replace if needs be too.

Yes, thanks it works fine. Was using it before the rain. But needed something I can work with inside due to weather. Went straight onto pipe work I already had and tightened with a jubilee clip. Runs of a 12 volt. Battery I use for Foxing

. One thing is I needed something just for smaller stuff in quantities. I still feel little beats coal for medium size work and I use a big gas torch for large items like handrails

Just incase anyone was interested I thought another burner pic might be handy. Did about sixty forged end bars in 12mm round today. Took a while to warm the thing through but after that it worked about pace with me at the anvil. Putting six bars in and moving them on in turn to the hottest spot under the burner.
Might be worth adding extra burner holes for different projects on same forge or ability to run 2 simultaneously.
The mig tip lasted fine but when it's past use I might try running it on a bigger hole just to see if it makes any difference.
Took a video but can't upload it here and to be fair on my rubbish connection I struggle like heck anyplace

LOL. Yeah, me too. I'm hoping to build a little forge for blacksmithing and smelting. I don't know why, I just keep obsessively watching them all on YouTube.

Oh and some time ago I managed to pick up a fantastic little anvil to start the collection.

I made a sidearm burner very similar to this.

It's works great and can achieve welding temps in a small forge, however it was a pain to get all the bits and get it tuned. When i make another I'll base it on an amal atmospheric injector (a British made Venturi mixer. These are very easy to tune and very simple to make into a forge burner.

That's good just wondered because I know some stuff is hard to get locally in the lakes and north Yorkshire area. Just call or message me on fb. I think I could make the same marginally better now fro. What I have learned doing this one. I would certainly build the next forge with facilities for more than one burner via a manifold with valves or just a Y piece if it was twin only. There are however clear advantages to single burner because not only are you using your gas slower your also able to keep pace with it at the anvil.

Here's an assembly list as I used. Use at own risk but its running g just fine after about ten hours work.
Consider a thermo couple for safety but I couldn't find one. However if you leave at least one glowing piece in it will instantly re ignite. Did over four hours on one run with a fresh bottle so loosing the flame is likely pressure issues.

Std lh thread fitting
Propane pipe
Rh thread oxygen type
Threaded female to male adapter to 3/4 bsp
3/4 bsp elbow
Natural gas valve (supposed to be prop but couldn't find one)
3/4 bsp tail threaded long one end (to go into next item with a fair amount of length left inside the burner)
3/4" bsp straight coupler (welded into next item)
1 1/2" bsp T with one stop end to stop excess air flow (useful if windy)
Another 3/4" bsp coupler
Stop end (this item drilled and tapped to take mig tip)
11/2" tail threaded both ends
11/2" coupler for forge top (weld in),

Thanks for all that Kent. I have read/seen that coal is a bit more of a skill to master than the gas forge. I've bought a few books on hobby and home blacksmithing so need to get round to reading them. I was thinking of making a 2 burner forge, or at least as you suggest having the facility to add a second burner, in case I end up wanting to do something a little bit bigger.
I do have a brake drum and some angle iron that I got hold of for making a coal forge but as with many projects it's still on the back burner as it were!

I take it the regulator you are using gives fairly nice control of the burner without the need to control/vary the air inlet?

Slight mistake on list. From the bottom of the T we have 1 1/2" to 1 1/4" reducer and a 1 1/4" burner pipe with 1,1/4" coupler at the forge connection
