Gas meter connection

I am trying to work out if there is a connection the same thread ad the one on a gas meter to test pipework, what i could do with is something like the fitting in the blue circle to screw into the fitting in the orange circle so it can be used to pressure test some pipe, do they already make such a thing?

Your meter, and other gas appliances, will have a pressure test nipple built into them so you can test the pressure without disconnecting pipework.

Its a bastard thread, gas meter specific. Can be bought but legislation is coming to stop anyone who isn't gas safe registered from buying them.

Your meter, and other gas appliances, will have a pressure test nipple built into them so you can test the pressure without disconnecting pipework.

Not a good idea to use the meter if you're checking pipework for pressure integrity.

When my friend and I converted a hose into two flats we did 95% of the work, including all plumbing and the central heating. He thought that it would be a good idea to test the gas pipework for integrity so connected a compressor to the end of the line and pressurised it to 100 psi or thereabouts. When I came to commission the boiler I had real problems with manifold pressure which, as the demand increased dropped off very rapidly. After scratching my head for some time, thinking that I was overlooking something obvious, I eventually called the gas board in. They decided the meter was faulty, which they said was unusual. But Hey Presto, normal service was resumed. They called me back a couple of weeks ater and told me that the bellows inside the meter had been blown up like a balloon. Wow!, said I, I wonder how that could happen?

Yes, my idiot mate hadn't thought to isolate the meter before pressurising the system

Ive never been gas safe, worked in heating and pipe work for years, i just want to know this is all gas tight before floors go down.

Grandfather always used a flame to test for leaks in gas pipe. Worked most of his life for the Gas Board....

just cap the pressure end and test from there

i have a 15mm to 22mm compression fitting with a tee that goes to a car inflator adaptor

whilst the other end has the guage on it great for testing between many systems

i also have a push fit compression that goes on the 15mm side of it just means i can use both 15mm and 22mm when needed

The only open end is in the meter box, i was just looking for something that screwed o to it, i van make up the bits to pressure it and read the pressure

Why buy a fitting to blank it off, for the purpose of testing blank off the supply add a tee and a test point and remove when done, cap pipe off, when meter is fitted it will be connected back to what's there and tested again.

Unless of course your just after fiddling the gas supply .

There is no meter fitted that's why i need to adapt to test, i would never fiddle a meter, im more of a politician in life so i get someone else to pay the gas bill
