Gasket Material for Log Splitter and Torques

My log splitter is leaking around the ends that clamp to the body.
It's a generic Chinesium make and shape.
Is there a rubbery gasket material recommended for this type of fitting, and would anyone take an educated guess at the torque for the long bolts that clamp the ends together?

There's no mention of a gasket in the exploded diagram.

they will use some kind of silicone....same as Ford engine sumps....
just take the leaking parts off, clean all faces with brake cleaner / thinners and re-apply with a qual selant........
loads on the market, Halfrouds or car acc shops.....PS. u dont need tons when u apply it...

The torque will depends on a few factors, and probably isn't too critical. I guess the studs are M12, and take the load while splitting logs, so need to be tight enough to seal against tension. I'd guess over 100 Nm, but don't know about a maximum.

As has been mentioned 100 Nm torque will be safe for M12 fasteners of 8.8 quality. Just in case the fasteners are less strong 6.6 quality start by torqueing to 57 Nm. Perhaps providing the measured diameter of the fasteners and any markings will help with giving information on safe tightening torques.

When I bought it, second hand, it was leaking and had lots of sealant around the 2 ends.
The guy sold it leaking, I stripped it and cleaned it placed a paper gasket and bolted it back together.
It worked but leaked during storage. I thought either better gasket and or RTV or needed better clamping, hence torque question.

Loctite 5900 is the "proper" sort of stuff for this, but a good RTV sealant like permatex black or grey will also be fine. Probably even a pu sealant like tiger seal or stixall will do the job although perhaps not designed for oil resistance

Proper is right, a 300ml tube cost more than I paid for the splitter!!!! The 50ml looks like the one.
Thanks MetalMonkey, I'm sure this was never originally built with this, but I don't want to be going back to it once fixed.
There's a future thread on this, as I'd like to adapt it to make Sawdust Logs, pushed through a scaffold tube.
It's something for SWMLC (she who makes lumpy custard) to play with.
