So I popped over to my mates today to take a proper look at his camper, and was pleasantly surprised, non of the required welding looks anything near as bad as the Landy or Hilux have put me through.
After some thorough wire brushing, cleaning and a few exploratory cuts with a grinder, we have in total:
- 2× patches to put into the NSF & OSF suspension turrets in the most convenient.
- NSF Outrigger to completely remake as it just disintegrated into splinters of rust when peeling the underbody protection back.
- grind back and reweld the fillet connecting the NSR outrigger to the cill.
- two small 50p sized patches to put into the corners at the rear.
Made up templates for the suspension turrets and the outrigger.
He's going to order some Zintec and bandsaw out the rough shapes, then do all the disassembly and cleaning we identified.
At which point I'll bring my welding gear, portable workbench and a little portable bending break over, and hopefully smash it out fair quickly.
