Giant snail sculpture

Hi all

Its been a while, I hope you're all well! Just looking through some of the threads, there's some awesome work on here

I've been working on a new sculpture and managed to finish it off on Christmas eve! It was due for a birthday in September but I couldnt do it in time so just about managed to finish it for Christmas... Whipes sweats of relief off weathered brow...

At first I thought, its a snail, its all geometrical so shouldn't be too much of an issue... Then I realised that I'm not a mathematician, I dropped out of school at 15 just before I learned... anything But luckily I managed to do some research and just started the tried and tested, getting stuck in and figuring it out as I go...

I started with the shell and slowly slowly started seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. By the end I was really happy and thought it would be plain sailing from then on. Oh no

I thought starting the shell would be easy enough but didnt realise how big it would be when finished so when I came to scaling up the body I soon realised t would have to be pretty big to look right. And I was running so late on the job I was having so many doubts about how to finish the body. Do I make it lines like the shell or do I clad it. I wanted to clad it from the beginning, but the mind plays silly games when stressed...

And finally fitting the two together, I took a load of photos of the slug separately as I thought I might be good as a separate sculpture too.

Awesome the workmanship and form of the shell section not to mention the skeleton of the body I doff my hat to you.

Thanks! You're absolutely right, I'd love to finish the shell, although this was the plan from the beginning, I like to have an element of see through ness, but now it's finished I do think it would look awesome with a solid she'll.

It was a pain in the ....... But as usual by the time it was finished I was really happy with it but it drove me round the twist at points! It was a commission, for September and I managed to get it done for Christmas... Real snail pace
