Hi all. I recently picked up an arc gen 300. My uncle gifted it to me and my plan is to provide a mobile welding service on the side. About the arc gen, its been sitting outside the last 4 years. After some persuasion I got her singing. The only problem now is there seems to be no power to the sockets or to the welder. Where do i start ripping. Thanks in advance.

There could be several possible reasons for the electrical part of the welder not working. Since it's been standing for so long, one possible reason is that any residual magnetic field in the generator's field windings has totally decayed, and needs to be re-established. This residual field is needed to get at least some output from the generator, which then builds up until it is able to deliver the full design voltage to the field coils. The fix for this typically involves disconnecting the field coils, briefly connecting a battery to the field coils, possibly via something like a car headlamp bulb to limit the current, and then re-connecting the field coils to their proper terminals.
Before doing so, give the welder a thorough internal inspection, and check for corrosion, especially at electrical terminals and connection points, and for evidence of wiring damage by rats or mice. Also check any circuit breakers are in the correct position.

I don't know how old your machine is, but many many years ago I acquired an old Max-Arc 400 amp diesel site welder.
I had the same problem, found out the problem was the brushes were corroded/stuck in the brush holders some very gentle levering to release the brushes followed by removing them, and very carefully cleaning the brushes and holders sorted the main problem, allowing the brushes to fully seat on the armatures comutator....
