Glue

Hi

I am having trouble. I am trying to tidy up /recover series 3 Landover dash.

I bought a fake leather affect stuff quite similar to the original vinyl.

I have cleaned with white spirt. Roughed up. The stuff won't stick. Very well.when pulled it look not bad.

I know have dash with half set glue


I am using hh 66 tf vinyl ement.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried warming the dash / vinyl with a hot air gun?

I don’t know if it will help - it’s only a suggestion.

Glue and material was a room temp. Will try giving dash a we blast of head.

White spirit will leave a greasey surface, you need something like panel wipe/brake cleaner/meths even

What plastic is the dash and what vinyl, do you have a link to it? The sticky backed thin stuff?

Some plastics wont bond easily.

The dash is the original Landover. Will need to get more glue now anyway. Will use brake cleaner.

It seamed like the faux absorbed glue and other surfaced had glue wouldn't stick

Its has no sticky backing at all

Blow the intended glue face over lightly with a butane or whatever torch. That roughs the surface up rather nicely, and greatly improves glue adhesion.
Give it a careful try on a test piece, and observe results....

Is this the metal backed lower part? I'd use high temp spray contact adhesive and heat to do that. Have some heavy round bits to impress into the indentations that the screws go into.

Its the pre existing foam / vinyl part. I should of posted a picture. I will tomorrow

White spirit will leave oily residue. Glue will not stick to it. Use cellulose thinners which IMO will be better than brake cleaner for this.

Are you doing the dash top, or the bottom ? Originally they were vacuum formed hot PVC over moulded foam over metal backing. Trying to replicate this with fabric backed vinyl is not easy .

Standard contact adhesives are unsuitable for PVC to PVC, due to leaching plasticisers. There are specialist adhesives for it, either as a primer for conventional high temperature contact adhesives or as a slower curing adhesive in one.

I bought a viynl glue HH 66 TF. Am I fighting a losing battle . Is it better for me to buy a vinyl wrap?

Is mainly because its pretty cracked up etc. Suppose it's 50 years old

Layer of 6mm scrim foam lightly attached with spray adhesive and recover it in Marine vinyl, which is UV proof. You still need the correct class of adhesive.

Is that not for gluing vinyl to vinyl? Not sure it will glue vinyl to anything else.

I would think that some sort of vinyl-safe contact adhesive would be the best bet.

I had been look for a compatable glue . I have obviously mixed it up. Its not needing a perfect fix I would just like it to look a bit better.

I thought the faux was vinyl

Sticky stuff remover for the old glue. Screwfix sell it. And B and Q
