Gold Finger

Quite a few times I wish I had a spare hand or finger to hold a small part down while I tacked it. I finally did something about it and made myself a Gold Finger.
I found a piece of 40 - 45mm water pipe about 250mm long, filled it full of old lead rolled up to give it some weight, blanked the ends off and welded a few bits of 6mm rod to it.

Trying to use up some old paint and found the gold.
On the paint can label it says ...... "Super Gold is not meant to be represented as having the same properties as real gold plate"
Well hello ............are they for real !
I was going to make a few of them and sell them for lots and lots of money until I read that !

Good job, Turn it into a Mk11 by adding a brass/copper/bronze tips to the legs for better connection if it is required to ground the part being welded, (as seen on Jodie Colliers, "welding tips and tricks site")

I actually thought of that Gordon and looked around the shed for some small diameter (6mm) copper pipe to slip over the ends for just that reason and also if I am welding within a mm or 2 of the holder downer bit the weld won't stick to it.

Could use the ends (drilled out to suite) of some old mig tips ?

I only have 1 mig tip and that's the one that came with the welder 2 months ago so I'm not using that. I found a bit of 5mm copper pipe and belted them on, that'll do.

If you invest in a set of tip files you can normally salvage mig tips unless you really foul it up.

Only a couple of quid.

Any chance someone has some spare used mig tips going? For a third hand project too
