An apprentice got his shirt ripped off in a lathe when I was an apprentice, did't have it tucked in. Next day he did exactly the same thing, didn't get hurt or sacked, luckiest bloke I ever met.
I watch a load of American programmes on our trade, and it seems to be commonplace to use a grinder with the supplied guard removed... I have done this myself on the rarest occassion and always get a bloody nip off of the wheel at some point, because i am used to working with a guard in place and put one of my fingers somewhere they shouldnt be. Is it not covered by some H and S law in the US then ? If anyone has read any of my previuos posts, they will see that i took a 9 incher " grinder that is " to my face a few years back. And really hate the things ..
