Hi I'm a new member/welder (just started). A lot of the little knowledge I have gained about welding has been thru these pages. Thank you. My querie is...why would I go for a Murex saffire Guage 5 over a Guage 3 (apart from the thicker metal weld/cut)? Is the 5 made sturdier? They're roughly about the same price. I have trawled and trawled for info rather than posting what may be a stupidly obvious question/answer. Thanks for any info.

Are you talking about gas torches 3 shank as opposed to 5 shank ? It depends more on what you will be doing and how long for as the difference will probably be in the weight. They will both take standard nozzles but the 3 is rated to weld up to 8mm whereas the 5 is rated up to 25mm.
Hi, yes 3 or 5 shank...so the 5 shank is bit heavier? Good to have the option to weld much thicker metal tho. Basically I have found a 5 shank with mixer,nozzles,cutter attachment second hand at a good price. Prob gonna go for the guage 5.Many thanks for info.
