Guyson Beadblaster Setup Help!

Hi,

I recently bought a bit Guyson blast cabinet which comes with a cyclone and pressure pot and a dust extractor too.

I’ve wired in the cyclone and extractor and hooked up the extraction hoses.

I’m having trouble working out where the air hoses go and how I should plumb it into my air supply.

There is a cut hose on the leg of the cabinet which goes to a valve. The valve has a pressure dial coming out of it showin pressure on the leg. The other side of the has the same diameter hose which is long enough to go over to the pressure only problem is the male fitting is too big to screw into any of the 3 fittings on the blast pot.

Now to the blast pot. On the bottom there is a mixer tap and female thread which I’m certain is where the media delivery hose to the gun goes. Then I’m left with two other points t need to be hooked up.

There is a hydraulic hose coming from the centre of the blast pot which directly after is a control valve which has a small control hose that goes to the foot pedal. Then the pipe work goes into the pot half way up and also down to the media mixing valve. The thread on this hose is female.

Then there is a pipe coming from the top of the pressure pot. This has a ball valve in it and then other end a T. One end is blanked off and the other is a male fitting. I think this might be the size to fit the mid way up hydraulic hose but I will have to check.

Finally the foot switch has a second air hose which goes to nowhere. There are no fittings anywhere on any of the machines for this to go.

Spoke to Guyson yesterday and it was like pulling teeth to get a little bit of info out of them. Their £100 ph for travelling is taking the pi##.

The info I got from that was the second foot pedal hose needs to go to a air line feed which constant air. When you press the air goes down the first hose to open the air switch to let the pressure pot pressurise.

Then the outlet on the top of the pot should be piped into cabinet as that is a air dump for the pot depressurising when you release the foot pedal.

My thongs originally until fittings didn’t match up was to put my mains airline into the cut hose on the cabinet. Then the other end of that hose to go into the hydraulic hose on the pot which is half way up the pot. That would then leave me with running a hose from thte top inlet to the pot through to the cabinet for exhausting the pressure pot air. Then I would also have to get the second hose from the foot pedal to my main airline.

Any advise on this would be really helpful. Had plenty of suction fed systems in the past but never a pressure pot version.

Guyson's pricing has always been on the farcical side of silly. They used to charge £80 for a pair of gauntlets for my DBH2. I modified it to use standard 'arm up a cow's backside' rubber gauntlets, £6 a pair...

i once went to the factory and bought a 15kg bag of glass beads and they stung me 40 quid and that was 30 years ago if you live anywhere near tell em your interested in buying one and go have a look i had a good nosey at the cabinets and gear when i went there

Thanks for your comments.

I spoke to the service manager. I’ll be emailing the MD to highlight the appalling customer service.

It’s old and they don’t have drawings of this model. The SM told me he didn’t think the pressure pot was Guyson. Gave me the I’ve been here 30 years BS. After telling me he has an engineer in Leeds which is 30 minutes from me he said all travel time is based from Skipton which is an hour away.

I’ll see if the parts department are any more helpful in getting this thing plumbed in. I bet they have an old schematic somewhere.

10 years ago I had a factory tour when. I was looking for a new blast cabinet and different blast media. The chap giving me the tour tried 4 or 5 media’s to blast my items with. Really nice guy. Shame about the rest!

I may be able to figure it out as you will have a main air in but it will probably split off to do difference things like pop up valve dead mman vale foot switch and looking at the bootom of the cabinet it may have air asisted grit mover up to the cyclone


cant quite see where or what connectors you have

Here are some more detailed photos. I’ll try describe each picture in order.

1. Front left leg of blast cabinet. Pressure gauge and regulator knob. The knob only turns half a turn at the moment. Presumably it’s just old and stiff rather than by design. This should adjust the pressure the cabinet will be blasting at.

2. End of the hose coming from the right or back side of the regulator from picture 1.

3. Behind the regulator. Showing a pipe going out of the right which ends over by the pressure pot shown in picture 2. Also the pressure gauge is fed from after the regulator. Then there is a hose coming from the bottom of the regulator which is just cut and is really short. I’m almost certain this is where the air input should go from my air receiver.

4. This is the top of the pressure pot. There is a ball valve on the under side shown in picture 5. The end on the right is blanked off. The Guyson chap said there should be a pressure relief hose coming from the top of the pressure pot so when air is cut by the foot pedal being released the pressure in the pot will escape quickly into a desired area so the mushroom will drop and media can fill up into the pot. He said they normally dump that air into the cabinet or into the cyclone ducting.

6. This is the side of the pressure pot. Half way up there is the outlet with a pressure relief valve on top. Then it goes down to air actuated switch. That switch has a blue nylon hose going back to the foot pedal. Then the big black hydraulic hose goes from there and loops up into view in picture 6. The thread size of this hose is the same as the top outlet on the pressure pot.
As this hydraulic hose is the start of the pressure pot air system (based on the air switch being controlled by the foot pedal) I would expect that long hose from the cabinet regulator to go into this larger hose feeding the pressure pot. The thread size on the long hose from the cabinet is too big though.

7. Here is the big hydraulic hose that feeds the air actuated switch.

8. This is the bottom of the pressure pot. Media metering valve and the outlet to the gun hose. Gun hose is on the floor next to it.

10. Foot pedal has two nylon hoses. The blue one goes to the air switch on the pressure pot side. The yellow one is loose. I can’t find anywhere for it to go. The Guyson chap said that it needs to have a constant air feed so when you depress the pedal air goes from that feed down the blue hose and opens the air switch letting pressure flow through from the air supply to the pressure pot.

All the fittings are dirty and rusty so I don’t think anything has been screwed in or removed anywhere to confuse the situation. I do feel like there is some fittings or hose missing. For example if the top pipe work from th pressure pot is just the pot air release and it needs to be plumbed into the cabinet then there is a hole in the side of the cabinet 12” away which would make sense. The other side of the cabinet has the same hole in the side but there is a plastic bung in it.

Then the input air supply hose has been chopped and there is no where for the yellow foot pedal air feed to go. There must have been some sort of fitting on the input before the regulated air for it to go.

What do you think? The more I go through it the more I feel I know how it should go. The thing that really bugs me is the long hose from the regulator doesn’t fit the big hydraulic hose thread and the hydraulic hose thread matches the top outlet pipe on the pressure pot. If I hooked that up there though there is no other way to get air into the pot so that can’t be right. I’m going to hook it up how I have suggested air to cabinet reg, link long hose from reg to big hydraulic hose on pot. Hook up gun hose to bottom of pot. Get a hose from top outlet to go into cabinet. Add T piece fitting to bottom of cabinet reg and hook mains air up to T. Then hook yellow foot pedal hose up to other leg of the T.

One other thing is at the base of the cabinet the metal ducting sucks up all the media and goes into the cyclone. At the very bottom someone has drilled a big hole then putty’d Up the hole with a short piece of hose pipe in it. I wondered if this is where the pressure pot top fitting should link up to so the air is dumped down there instead of into the cabinet. Not sure it really matters or if the hose is there for another reason like unblocking things. It’s smaller in diameter than the top pot fitting.

What’s the worst that could happen!

HI Ross just read throu you post again it definatly looks as if youve a mish mash of different systems as all the fitting should match best thing dont think about the thread size yet just figue the system then get fitting to suit what your conecting to. Good luck keep us posted

I’m not convinced about hooking the air input to the top outlet on the pot but will try it and see.

The Guyson guy said there was normally a pressure release outlet at the top of the pressure pots to drop pressure out of the pot. Would the pop up valve be spring loaded so when pressure drops from the pot the valve opens to let media drop down into the pot?

The clear foot pedal hose needs a constant air supply Guyson said. The actuator is fed by the blue line as you can see.

What you say about hooking the big hydraulic pipe up to the top of the pot makes sense as the fittings match and if there is a missing T that would have accepted the long hose from the cabinet giving air to top and bottom.

I’ll send some pictures of the inside. The hose on the floor by the grit valve is the gun hose. It goes up and into the cabinet from the top.

The hose you wanted a wider shot was the hose coming from the cabinet regulator.

If I hook the big hose up to the top of the pot outlet and then Remove the bung I could put the regulator hose into there. That would get it all wired as you say. Then I just need to hook up air to the other side of the regulator and get the foot pedal hooked up at the same point.

Will let you know how I get on. It’s a powerful beast. The previous company have obliterated the 5mm plate on the rotary table. I’ve got a 10mm plate on top now which should hold up better. It’s got rubber curtains around the sides and back to stop the cabinet getting destroyed.

" Thinking about this again dont go there I have only seen the pressure blow off valve at the top it was the tap that made me think of that. it could be a reealese for some thing but for safety sake I would get another pressure release valve fitted there

Would the pop up valve be spring loaded. No the pop up vale is only pushed up with air hence with the presure foot controller of there should be no presure to push up the pop up valve its gravity fall with no air

The Urethane Pop Up Valve, also know as a filler valve, automatically ‘pops up’ as air enters the blast pot and secures itself against the O-Ring, ensuring that no air can escape. The Urethane Pop Up Valve is slightly wider than the Rubber Pop Up Valve and has excellent sealing and wear properties.

Yes I woke up in the night and thought here is no way you can have air going to the top middle and bottom. The mushroom valve would always have pressure holding it one way.

The big hydraulic hose goes into the air switch operated by the foot pedal. That sends air into the pot which must close the mushroom valve.

When you release the foot pedal the air switched off from going into the pot. Then the air needs to escape from the top of the pot to let the mushroom valve open.

Do you think you manually do this by opening that valve on the top outlet? If it was always open air wold escape all the time?

If it was closed how is the air going to release from the pot without the ball valve being opened? I think I need to add a hose from the top outlet into the cabinet then potentially stop after X amount of time open the valve, close the valve and carry on blasting.

If it was always open air wold escape all the time? ....................The previous person may have had it attached to the pipe in the bottom of the cabinet to help push the grit up hard to say what it there for. In therey the pot wont over pressure as there is a blow off valve on main air in feed

Here is an update.

I’ve ordered all the connections I need to plumb everything in so should be testing things out Wednesday or Thursday this week.

Attached some pictures showing the inside and the two holes in the side of the cabinet along with the single bung.
