Halp needed with choosing a compressor

Hi,

I've just been quoted £200 for spraying my rock sliders on my Landr Rover, so I wondered if it was possible to buy a compressor and spray gun to allow me to spray single panels or parts one at a time.

I guess what I'm saying is, it is possible to buy a £100-150 compressor and bits to alow me to spray my projects.

I know the ideal advice will be a 14CFM compressor etc, but I don't have the power supply or the budget.

Ha anyone managed to get ok results (remember this is a landy) with something like a 4-6CFM and matched spray gun, if so I need some pointers on where to get the parts in the UK.

The small Bergen 0.8mm nozzle touchup guns don't need a great deal of CFM and are so cheap they are almost a consumable. I've done chassis, floorpans and bulkhead on a car succesfully with one.

A small foam roller is quite good for jobs like that.

If you do a search on here for "Bergen" there it brings up a host of threads about small compressors and spraying where they are mentioned. This bulkhead and floor pan were painted with the 0.8mm Bergen gun using Epoxy Mastic 121 thinned with the maximum recommended amount of thinners which is really a bit too thick for the gun but with the spray pattern adjusted coverage is acceptable and you just have to take your time. One benefit due to the gun being small and the paint being so thick is little to no overspray, the paint doesn't go everywhere and a little of the expensive paint goes a long way.

I haven't had any success using this paint with foam glossing rollers as the paint attacks the foam and chunks peel off. I did have great success with my ex-girlfriends Tampax cleaning paintball gun barrels but had to give up as she started hiding them and I couldn't bring myself to buy them. They also create a bit of a laugh when fired at the the other team hiding in buildings or bunkers.

This is good news! Especially for my pockets.

On a side note, I've had good results with a roller on my last van. Buyer didn't believe it was possible to get a good finish with one.

I was always impressed with the finish glossing rollers gave using Tractor paint when we tarted up pumping equipment for site hire.

Excellent news, so I will be able to turn my Discovery Orange at some point on a budget. But more importantly do all the little niggly bits of spraying I need to do..... Off to Machine Mart for a compressor I guess.

I read online I should not get a non oil free compressor it I'm going to paint, and this one look big enough.

If you can holdon MM have VAT offers, plenty of guys on here, don't need the vouchers, so offer them on here FOC.

As for the linked compressor, I had a MM tiger* compressor, for light work, it served me well.
