Hello all -Disco owner - so need to learn to weld!!

Hi all,

I have been a Disco 300 tdi owner for a couple of years now, and always had someone else weld her up, but now I have relocated I no longer have the contacts so I have decided to learn myself

Got to know about this site through the Landzone forum, so I guess you guys help us Landy owners a lot

So completely new to this welding, never held one, or know anything about them...apart from when I watched B.A. make amazing machines in 5 mins on the A-Team

So please go easy on me, and I am sure I will learn and pick up the welding bug pretty quick, and hopefully I can also help other people with some other knowledge I may have tucked up in my head somewhere.....

Yes, it was amazing what he could "weld" with a cutting torch

Welcome to the forum from another green oval fan, have look through the tutorials and buying a welder section to give you a few ideas.

Something in the 150Amp range should cover you for a Disco, set yourself a (realistic) budget and don't forget to factor in gas, PPE, etc.

Realistic, to get absolutely everything required. £500+.

Gas - rent free, ~£50 deposit, ~£30 refill - £80

£465, £35 left to spend on misc welder spares, grinding discs, flap wheels etc.

No affiliation with weld equip other than fantastic customer experience, no experience of the clarke welder but well regarded on here and I nearly bought one until I spotted an bargain in the for sale section here.

I had looked at getting a Sealy Maxi Mig 150 amp Welder as watching one for sale for around £150.00 - would this be any good compared to the one you recommend?
