Well I have been a member on here for a while now so I figured it was time to introduce myself.I have always been interested in learning to mig weld, and now I am working offshore I have the time at hand to learn and use one.While using this forum I have been reading all the posts and picking hints and tips up from all of them (Ideal).I am due offshore again this week so I will have to pm Weldequip when I get back and order some supplies and a welder to start practising.So be prepared for plenty of questions from me over the next few months.

I havent tried either yet.Im a total newbie to welding so Im relying on info from on here and pestering a couple of my mates who are full time welders.Im going to find out if there is any welding courses near me that I can enroll in.Might be a bit awkward with me being offshore unless I can find a few day course that fits in when Im home.

When you say offshore I assume you mean oil rig? Are you a fitter or something?

How old are you? If you wanted to learn welding as a career then the ECITB do courses up your way. Its a proper apprentice tho and there are age limits.

Im a Joiner offshore Matt, and 35 year old. Im a bit old to be doing a full time course,Im trying to find a starter course just to help show me how to go on.Its trying to find a course that will fit in for when Im home.Im only interested in welding as it will help me with my other hobbies mainly Landrovers and little jobs that I have to ask friends to do for me.

Hmmmm probably a night class at college or something. City and Guilds begginers course is what you need, but I don't know any colleges in your area.

Hi katluke, I realise its been a while since you posted this but I would be very grateful if you could help me on something. I see that you are currently working as a joiner off-shore. Would it be possible for you to pass on some info about becoming a joiner off shore as it would be something I would like to try. Having a bit of trouble tracking down joiner jobs off-shore any any inside tips from someone already there would be great,

Replying to old threads is actually a good way of getting members back to the forum as most of the low-volume posters will probably still have email notifications turned on and will therefore get an alert when someone replies to the thread they posted in. I recently saw a post replied to and a member who'd not been on here for well over a year suddenly reappeared.

So i'm not the only one then Woz! I'm stuck in a recruitment agency during the day hours and do my repairs and stuff in the eves/week ends. Not enough buisness yet to stop in the office but too much for the spare time i do have. Rock and hard place! Any Ideas?
