Hello there !
MY names Reg and I'm a hobby/occasional welder
I've had a Sealy Mightymig 100 for years which has been very useful for
fixing up cars vans and motorbikes etc
I always knew it was a cheap, rather toylike, affair compared to other welders but
as it spent most of any year stowed away I could never justify shelling out on
anything better.
Despite this I managed to get results ranging from pretty good to bloody awful
out of it.
I added a fan to keep it cool and support for the cheap hoses.
It still works as well as it ever did
Recently I was given a MAG-130 by mate who had retired and it looks to have a better build
quality. The torch, hose and wire feed look much better anyway.
(that Sealy wire feed is pathetic
)
I rigged it up today and did some experimental welds and so far so good
I only use hobbygrade gas bottles but I got good penetration and a nice clean weld.
Good oh! the Sealy will be offered to another hobbyist.
Heres a pic of my old and err 'new' welder
the wire feed pot does alter the speed but feels very slack
I saw it had an RS part number on it so there may be a chance
I can replace it if needed , IIRC it was a 100k linear pot.
slackness aside when I used a meter to test it, the resistance between the wiper and
track altered as I moved it.
I can live with it for now.
Question:
what are the chances of my finding parts to keep it working?
While trying to find info on MAG tools "A divison of Stanley tools"
I found this place and what was to be a quick look had me browsing around for ages
Excellent site guys, lots of good stuff here.
Reg
