Hi all,
Recently picked up a second hand Clarke 135TE for not a lot - the wire wasn't feeding properly. Got it home and sure enough loads of rust on the spool, cut it all back to good stuff and it worked a treat!
I'm newish to MIG so found a lot of the advice here very helpful - I've successfully achieved some good penetration welds joining 3mm tubing as legs onto a 500l steel expansion tank and bracing with 2mm box section to the tubing. Good for holding the half-ton load it'll have.
However, I don't think my machine was up to joining the 3mm tubing to the 6mm plates I wanted to use as feet. Even on max power and high speed, I got limited penetration and some sputtering (0.6mm wire). But its good enough for the job as all the force is down onto the plate. And I've whacked the plates with a hammer and they'll bend before the weld gives.
However, silly sod that I am, I managed to drape the welder's hose over a hot part and melt a big hole in it. Of course in hindsight it's pretty logical that this is a bit that would melt but it never occured to me or I'd have been a little more careful with it. Kicking myself now of course!
So where is the best place to purchase the tubing to replace the one I've (stupidly) damaged?
