Hi, My name is Peter and I am learning to weld, at home so I suppose it's the 'hard' way
Anyway, I have bought a clarke mig from MM (a 160tm checking my receipt)
I also bought a couple of small gas canisters, valve/regulator to convert it from gasless to gas. I think I got a good deal (assuming tht the bl00dy thing works when I use it!)
So, why (well why not!), well I like my cars and as they are fords, I figured that I better learn how to weld

Well, that's me. I have been reading and reading and reading the threads here so thanks to you all so far...I guess this means I better find my camera lead for newbie/learner pictures

Hi Peter. Learning to weld the 'hard way' would be without a forum such as this i.e. the way I tried to learn. I eventually took an evening class in welding (MIG & TIG) and got up to speed really quickly. Now however, you can upload photos & videos and troubleshoot quite nicely. And here's me thinking the internet was just a source of porn...

Anyway, good luck. I saved my disposable canisters in case I ran out of gas in the weekend, then found a supplier open saturdays & sundays so never used them. D sized bottles last ages if you're a weekend hobbyist like me, although it irks me somewhat to have to pay for hireage of the bottles. BOC (the only gas supplier where I live) don't refill owned bottles, so there's no choice.

One tip (in case your manual isn't too flash) is to reverse the polarity when you switch between normal MIG wire & flux cored wire. My welder was set up for gasless welding and I didn't get any results until I figured that one out.

What sort of Fords are we talking here? Mk I Escorts, Capris or something more modern?
