Hi everybody, i signed up to this great forum a few weeks back as I've been looking for TIG welding advice. All i can say is the info I've found on this site has been very helpful and i can't think of anything i wouldn't be able to find on here!

Im a fitter/welder at work but I've no experience with TIG welding just MIG and MMA. I will be losing my job over the next few months so have thought of going self employed doing light engineering and fabrication work. This is why I'm keen on learning as much as i can about TIG welding. Ive bought myself a TIG setup and have started practising. Here are a few of my practice welds on 6mm stainless steel fillet:

Hi there and welcome

First impressions, not bad for a first timer. I'm no tig welder, but I think more amps needed for better penetration. The bead is sitting up too much (convex), where it should be a bit more concave or flatter and welded into the parent and 6mm plate. Maybe you're moving too fast. Rod control is ok though.

Plenty of good tig welders knocking around here to give good advise with settings etc.

Im still trying to get to grips with basic setup of my machine. These welds were done using a 2.4mm Lanthanated electrode, 1.6mm filler and machine set to 110-120Amps. Does this sound ok for this thickness of plate? I think i am moving too slow, i cant feed the filler rod properly yet!
