Hi all,
Been lurking around here for a while looking for hints and tips etc and finally decided to sign up. I have been using a cheapo gas less mig for a while now just doing the odd little tack here and there but tbh its not up to much. Recently decided to turn my car into a project which is gonna require a bit of welding so gonna invest in the proper stuff to get the job done properly.
Been searching for a while trying to decide what setup to go for and have decided that a clarke 160tm should be able to cope with my needs. The vast majority of my work will be bodywork based however Im sure ill want to tinker at other things so from what i've read this should be a good choice for starting out.
Heres a little bit of background on my project thats sparking this venture. Its a 1990 vw golf 1.3 in cherry red. I bought it six months after I passed my test 4 years ago. the mk2 golf was my realistic dream car when I was a kid so was pretty chuffed when I got one so soon after learning to drive. Heres some photos of it at its best:
And the lump thats going into it
So its getting a 1.8 20V Turbo fitted and during the conversion the engine bay will be getting smoothed and all other signs of rust are being cut out to fresh metal and replaced.
Im sure ill be picking everyones brains shortly, after I save enough cash to buy the welder and other parts needed.
Cheers
Ian
