Just joined. Looking to learn to weld properly. Bought a MIG welder (mumble) years ago and tried to teach myself. Some welds I made stayed together some didn't. Old welder is looking sorry for itself so I've given it away to someone who can fix and then use it so I'm looking for a new one. One that's easy for a noob to get to grips with.

I'm also looking for some tuition but the fact that work takes me away from home during the week I'm finding it difficult.

Hi Chas and welcome to what is a sanctuary for many of us!

There are some good tutorials at the top of the page which would be a good starting point and please feel free to ask on here if you have any other concerns....and we like pictures and they can often help to determin a problem with welds etc.

What sort of budget do you have for a new machine?

Budget.... how long is a piece of string. I bought to a budget last time and this time want to get the right tool for the job, anything that makes it easier for a novice to pick up is worth paying for. If it costs more I'll save for longer.

At the moment I'm trying to find out what I need in a machine. I know what I want to use it for, general welding on motorcycles so thats sheet and thicker stuff. I also need to run it off a 13A fuse. Apart from that I'm learning.
