just found the site being browsing for a while
very informative site
im a fetec qualified metal fabricator myself
plenty of experience in mma mig tig welding
restoring a few mk1 and mk2 fiesta's
im sure this site will be a help alomg the way
plent of other good information too
quick first question have a 220 arc welder at parents house and father has garage wired for same
what can i do in a regular house to get some power for same welder to garage to stop her tripping main fuse board in house ?
or is there a way round this that im unaware of ?

i would imagine you would have to install a separate fuse box and wiring to run it properly

can this be done from the main fuse board in the house just with heavier guage wiring ?

it all depends on the loading factor route and price. idealy run a 6.0mm cable from house db providing theres a spare way in it .add a type c 40 amp mcb. thats if it is a modern board. if not a 1 way fuse box would have to be added just to supply the garage then fit a new db in the garage minimum 3 way with rcd mainswitch 1- 6 amp breaker for lights 1 .-20 amp for a few sockets on a radial circuit or a 32 amp for a ring circuit and 1- 32 amp for dedicated welder socket also make sure the house water and gas suply if u have one are bonded back to main db in 10.0mm earth wire if the welder requires anything bigger than 30 amp the next size cable up is 10.omm for 42 amp load and 16mm for 60 amp load

ok that electrical talk is all abit over my head
but basically it is possible going by that to have a wire from the garage from the house fuse board (if im right on that) of the correct guage. would the wiring before the fuse board need altering in any way.
and then the wiring to the garage seperatly fused for each individual requirment as described sockets lights welder

you would need to make sure that the fuseboard has a spare place for a new fuse/breaker and also that the board is capable of the extra load if not a separate box must be installed which would connect to the meter tails as your existing one does apart from the above you have the basic idea correct

hi and Welcome don't forget to pull the main fuse this should be in a sealed unit tampering with the sealed is illegal but not uncommon as you will be hooking up to live side of the trips or fuses
