Hello from Didcot

hi,

New to the forum. Currently getting to grips with my new Oxy/Propane set up I have for Brazing more than anything else and am about to buy a new MIG having finally given up with knackerd old Clarke 90amp thing.

Current welding project developing a large scale model loco which I hope to produce in kit form, this involves welding/brazing 5mm thick bogie frames and MIG welding 2mm thick sheet steel chassis. Then I have work out how to weld/braze the 1mm thick bodywork sheets.

Also for ever making bits for our Motorbike/sidecar, Motorbikes.

Very inexperienced in the welding department, having in the past paid a welder to do it for me, but that is about to change.........

Hi Keith. welcome to the forum, the tutorial section is good but does not cover brazing - yet.
What scale / guage loco are you building?

Hi Keith,

What sort of loco are you doing? If you are talking about bogies and frames and body, must be a diesel, sounds like a 5 inch. There's not many people doing all metal kits at the moment, would it be the guys in Bexhill? By the way I have a pair of Class 20's in 5 inch.

Welcome to the forum, when i saw Didcot, i immediatly thought you would be into trains, sure enough...!

Well the project is a 5" gauge center cab narrow gauge Diesel based on an Irish 3' gauge loco made by Walker Brothers.

The model is my own design using CAD and then getting everything cut by a Lazer profilers.

I've attached some pictures of the parts which are all tabbed for easy self jigging. The bogies I have Brazed as they are 5mm thick the rest are to be MIG welded when my new 150TE turns up.

I will be running it at the Reading SME along with our 3 1/2" gauge Mountaineer steam lcoo.

Looks like a smaller version of std gauge class 17 "clayton"
