Hi,

I'm just preparing to get back into welding having just dusted off an old Snap-on 130 I bought on eBay approximately two years ago.

Many moons ago, I had a BOC 130 turbo and a few years back did a little bit of work with a Cebora 130 (All the same thing in different suits I know)

Having spent some time yesterday removing manky wire from the outside of the reel, I tested the wire feed and it was rather poor and erratic. However, wire speed was back to smooth and even when I clean the blackened contact in the brass block / gas valve trigger.

Managed to borrow a pipe and hook it up to some Argoshield Light and lay down some test welds on some scrap 1mm steel. Welds not the best, but I wasn't blowing (too) many holes in the sheet. Satisfied that the welder is fully functional, I was thinking about converting it to a Euro torch as the trigger isn't all that great. I'll probably change the earth clamp too whilst I'm at it.

Other than that I need to see what the prices are for AP or BOC round here. Need to get a decent size of cylinder as I've a lot of car panels to weld.

I'm a bit out of practice so will be asking for advice.

Hi and welcome to the site, I was in the same boat with BOC etc, ended up finding Inngas, a local independant who also does argon/co2 bottles of all sizes for half the BOC price..well worth checking the area well, they don't seem to advertise that much...mine was only 8 miles away and I had no idea they stocked the stuff.

I'll ask around, but I think there's not much indy action here.

But I'll make a note of Inngas, in case I have to do welding on the car I have at my parent's place in Carlisle.

I have a Y size bottle from BOC and AFAIK its 80 odd euro a year rent and 40 a refill, I got my 1st refill of the year last friday so as soon as the recipt comes out ill let you know exactly.

steeo, I was thinking of a Y or W sized cylinder. Never seemed worth getting a X sized cylinder. It'll be interesting to know the prices. It was nearly 4 years since I last rented a cylinder from BOC and that was in the UK.
