My name`s Jerry,do a bit of welding.. worked in an architectural/art welding and fabs workshop (railway arch) using ThermalArc 180 MIG (lovely solid machine)and a Kemppi invertor MIG (a sweet little gadet,a bit plasticky and vulnerable for site work I thought)for on site work with a half size bottle which can be manhandled up and down stairs. Was on the welding team on an old German trawler,Stubnitz,in Rostock, learned various words of German, cut up a couple of old factories with oxy-propane for the RSJ`s to weigh in. if you was wondering.. the scrap prices were low and it paid for gas diesel and a night in the bar.
Have had some mad experiences, once we had a 1957 Grimsby side trawler,(500 tons finest riveted Yorkshire steel) two bunkers (diesel tanks) 35 tons each approx. One was to be converted into a bar,so we cut a bar shaped oblong out of it with oxy propane, cutting in from the outside. There was still a foot deep diesel dregs in the bottom, all the orange stream just poured into the cold diesel and went out. Got away with that, glad it was winter...diesel @ 0 degrees is hard to catch on fire.
I`m buying a 2nd hand MIG now, will be a mid range oldie like a Cebora/Snap On etc 150-180,whatever bargain turns up,and like many I will get a Portamig185 when I can afford it. I`m new to running me own machine, have always used nice plant at work,so will probably be posting on here with "wire feed problem" queries but will try and lighten the tone with amusing breaches of health n safety, have a nice one Jerry
