Hello from North Dorset!

Hi guys,

Found this forum only yesterday and have already learn't some very useful things already!!

I left school 6 years ago to work on the farm, whilst at agricultural college did a brief bit on welding, and loved it.
Luckily, my dad is also very much into welding on the farm so i have a big workshop with 2 welders, band saw and lots of tools.
I make all our Gates, Feed troughs and do most of our machine repairs/modifications.

I hope can help with advice from my own experiences.

just looked at your photos. . . .. .

I'm quite often at your place of work picking up steel in 1 form or another.
(I only live about 3 minutes drive from there!)
You guys supplied and drilled the holes in the uprights for our new cow barn about 2-3 months ago
Which we finally got planning permission for last week thankfully.

Hi sparkey,

Yeah I'm a dairy farmer, currently have a heard of 230 cows. Building new cow housing because the old buildings are very old, too small, too low ... ect.
We try to do most of the construction ourselves, we've had the barn professionally designed and spec'd. I now have lots of drawing's and lots of piece's of steel to weld together and then bolt together!!

I don't know how we would cope on our farm with out a mig welder!

Stop driving into gates and things for a start i suppose!

Drive into the gates yeah!! lol sounds familiar! (shovels and buckets are favourite too!)
Yes, i work on the farm sometimes when they need a hand, other than that i'm full time production welder in a big carpart plant...
230 milkcows?? We have about 200 in total, and we're milking 90 black holstein at the mo...

What kinda tractor do you have?
