Having already asked questions here, and found some very nice helpful people, I thought I'd be polite and introduce myself.
I live on Sanday, one of Orkney's North Isles. Think John O'Groats, then two ferry trips further north. When I moved here last September, I brought with me a 1969 MGB GT, which I've been very slowly restoring over the past three years. As it needed quite a bit of welding, I bought myself a SIP Migmate 130 and set about trying to learn to use it. I know many people don't like SIP welders, but I think Practical Classics recommended it, and the price was right, so there you are.
A few weeks ago someone gave me another MGB GT, so now I have two rusty heaps in the garage and a lot more welding to do.
I find welding both satisfying and frustrating. One day I'm producing work I'm very pleased with, and the next day it's all pops and bangs and blowing holes everywhere. Feel free to blame the SIP for that!
I'm currently trying to work out a way to get gas more economically than the disposable 110 litre bottles I'm using, but as even my 'local' suppliers are two hours away by boat, that's proving quite difficult!
If anyone's interested I have a sort of blog thing which is supposed to be documenting my progress, but (a) I'm not making much progress and (b) I don't update it very often:
