Hello,
I have been lurking on here for quite a while. Can I say what a great site it is and that I have learned a lot from it. Very inspirational.
I have a Land Rover so being able to weld was always going to be useful.
A while ago my father in law gave me his Clarke 100EN MIG. First was to practice. A one square meter steel sheet was my starting point. I covered most of it. When I went to scrap it my wife said it was pretty and it is now a rusting backdrop for a garden water feature
I got "sun burn" on my arms. Yes, I was wearing all the gear, but forgot to cover my arms!
First project was to make the Land Rover front shock turrets longer as I was fitting long travel suspension. I had a piece of tubing that was ideal, but I was not sure if my welding would hold up. Over a year later and they are still OK.
Then the welding stalled until last summer. I bought a big old cheap AC buzz box arc welder from Ebay. I figured it would be good on thicker steel. Such like making some rock sliders. I did some practice welds and they went well. still not made anything with it yet, but I know it will be possible.
Then I did something stupid and added a Discovery to go with my 90. Taxed and with an MoT, but needing lots of work to get its next MoT. Bought last August and it's been lots of fun. Now the work starts. Seeing what others have done on here did give me hope and encouragement.
Just finished the boot floor, but lots more to do. I'll post in the projects section if there is an interest.
I'll have lots of questions so stand by.
Thanks,
Paul.
