Hello,
Just joined up as I'm looking for a little advice on TIG sets.
Been drifting away from welding since I finished my apprenticeship in the mid 80's.
Did a 4yr apprenticeship in maintenance welding & fitting, did enough prac & exams to get both tickets, but got a job in mechanical fitting.
Then moved on got HNC, then Degree then MEng, and diversified into machinery controls and stuff like that, also get qualified as an electrician & registered as a professional engineer.
Always kept my hand in with a little bit of Arc, and some MIG (cars!), plus some oxy-acet.
I have always found ocy-acet very therapeutic.
Now I'm back on the tools running my own little machine repair company so I'm finding that I am doing more odd small weld repairs, getting out broken bolts, repairing guards, making the odd guard to get a machine to comply with current reg's etc. for customers, building up worn parts etc.
I have my own little workshop, lathe, miller, presses benches, and some welders.
Do mostly controls related repairs at the moment.
However, over the last few months I have ended up with about a dozen weld repairs, or small fabrications as either breakdowns, or jobs for good clients where they want me to sort their problem for them.
A couple have been Al, and no TIG!
I have some flux & rods for oxy-acet, but, it is not the same...
Going to have a poke around and get used to the place and see what I can offer, perhaps, being a busy bee, and I will shortly be asking about what is good value in the market for TIG sets these days.
Looks like a good site to be honest.
