Hey
i am a dutch student mechanical engineering, 21 years old and interested in everything with technology and fabbing stuff myself, searching through scrapheaps, welding, everything. besides technology i like to ride my mountainbike, maybe a bit of snowboarding, running, bit of music and lots of other stuff that seems interesting lol.
At the end of 2002 i got my first welding machine after searching for one for ages. my parents insisted that i did a welding course before i would buy one, but then i found a small stick welder (140 A) at a car boot sale and started right away
some time later i found a small 85 ampere mig welder that i fixed up, used for a few projects (jetengine etc) and sold because i was tired of the low quality.
during the last years i did a MIG/MAG course and a TIG course, and a metalworking course as well with things like cutting/deep drawing/yadda yadda. very helpful.
my current welder is a small Electra Beckum inverter (130 Ampere). i also bought a tig torch+argon etc but its a lot harder with scratch start (and no tig function on the welder) so im not using the tig option often.
right now im looking for a nice tig welder. ive been fond of the Lorch little inverters since the day i first saw them and on top of my list is the HT180 AC/DC but its much too expensive. So maybe i'll get a Lorch MIG machine or a Chinese tig machine although the good Chinese ones are so expensive that its a short stretch to get the Lorch anyway....
To try the cheap stuff i got a highweld plasmacutter from ebay and it seems to work fine.
here are some pics of my projects:
