Sorry all, in my paste to get help solving my issue today I overlooked my manners and didn't put an introduction note in. My name is Frank and I live in the Saarland in Germany, although I'm originally from Lancashire in the UK. I work in the automotive industry, normally on body interior, but my current contract is for a supplier to Ford working on exterior.
I learned to weld at night school in order to restore my 1972 VW Bus, but issues with the welder (and distractions in the form of lots of motorbikes) have prevented me from starting. I suspect a lack of confidencer is also a factor here, but I am determined to grab this particular nettle over winter.
My adventures will be found on my website www.thecampervanchronicles.de for those who wish to follow them, although I'm fairly sure there will be a blow-by-blow account in the "Welding techniques" section when I start distorting and burning holes in expensive repair panels in earnest.
I'm definitely looking forward to becoming a complete pain with numerous questions, so you should start asking the forum administrators to put my posts on auto-delete now.
Regards
Frank
