Hi my name is gareth, im 23 and have just started mig welding.

Im doing the city and guilds course at college and getting along quite well.

I dont actually own a welder yet but i am in the market for one...(i have £300-£400 to spend if anyone has any recommendations)

I am into off road landrovers and own a pretty modified defender 90 which is the reason i decided to have a go at welding.

I have been looking arond the site and it looks a really useful source of info and everyone seems friendly.

got one disco cut down chassis becoming offroader and another chassis thats going to become a camper.

So..... Does anyone have any suggestions on what machine i should get with my money..?
Ideally i would like large gas bottle type that will do upto 6mm/7mm mild steel Not really sure what smallest size would be..

Would love to hear some suggestions

you want to be looking at at least 200 amps to weld 7mm steel

that will be pushing your budget to get a decent mig

not sure what clarkes are in this price range but may be the only decent option or a sh industrial mig

Ill try and get some pics up of the landy i should have some on here somewhere.....
Im not bothered about getting a second hand machine if its going to get me something a little more substantial, and maybe 7mm was pushing it a bit and im sure i wont have to weld anything more than 5mm and if i did id try to make sure i v the edges...
