hello im new here

hi guys im new here and was just aving a butchers at ur site
my names gav and im from wolverhampton


rite then the thing is im having trouble finding a welding job around by me
so im wondering what i am doing wrong ?

im currently at college got about 6 weeks left on a city and guilds level 3
tig pipe welding course

ive currently got

asme 9 6g tig
city and guilds level 2 mig
city and guilds level 2 tig
city and guilds level 2 ali tig
city and guilds level 2 mma
and soon a city and guilds level 3 in tig pipe welding


so im just wondering what would be my next step in qualifications ?

if i dont get a job by september then i may go and do the level 3 mma pipe welding ????

any advice guys

whats the work situation like around there? plenty of welding going on? probably just firms pulling in the belts at the moment rather than anything your doing wrong so hang tight.

well tbh the work situation around here is ridiculous m8
i went for 1 interview about 2 month back now and i never even had a weld test the bloke who interviewed me said over 200 people had applied for 1 job lol

i keep sending my cvs out to all these company's and agencies but just dont get the calls back

so its not my welding lol

looks like i may have to end u hitting the road jack eh

To be a bit brutal and certainly no offence meant, if your CVs are written like your posts it's hardly suprising you don't get any replies.

It's an employers' market and they can pick and choose on any points they like.

The other problem is they only want to employ young people with loads of experience

well tbh i dont bother typing the posts correctly on the net just cant be bothered
but my cv is correctly typed out as a friend ov mine who works for an agency
done it for me

also im not that old well i dont think so as im only 29 ? is that classed as old now ????

and ive got ****loads ov experience been doing welding since ive left school

class 1 coded ali mig and tig
asme 9 6g tig
asme 9 6g mma
asme 9 mig

so maybe wat dya say ?????

Hi Gav,

What college are you working at? What experience do you have of welding apart from in a college/class room environment?

I visit end customers (fab shops etc) all the time so I will keep an eye out for you.

Sound to me like youve got plenty of of tickets, but what on th job experience have you got? Sounds like ou have spent a lot of time at college.?
Id think employers want people with experience, that are able to consistently weld perfectly, and can prove that through experience.

Is it just welding you do Gav? or do the fabrication side of things aswell?

ok then here goes

well

i have done fabrications from one offs to production work
you know how it is wen times are hard u will take any job

ok
wen i left school went to a factory where my dad worked
doing healthcare products ie hospital beds etc
bit ov a cack job but got me into the welding game

then i went into plating / fabricating of petrol tankers also welding
hence the class 1 ali mig and tig
that included rolling ov the sheets for the tanks to fab'n them up
and building of them to circ seam welding ( welding in manipulators )
all the welds were xrayed all ali mig and tig mostly but a bit ov m/s

after that i mostly went onto contracting

bcl railway / ardmore construction in london fab/n an welding ov hotel pods
and machine repairs ie
road rail dozers etc etc and the likes for rail way maintenance

structural steel works for major projects around uk
including aintree race course
a shopping complex in liverpool
refurbishment work for ball packaging in wrexham ( they make beer cans )
refurbishment work for pirelli cables in wrexham

fabrication welding fitting ov o/h cranes

just incase u dont know wat they are lol

i made 1 crane that was 45 metres wide and could lift 150 tonnes
and loads ov small cranes including repair work etc ( crane engineers role )

structural work fabrication plating etc ranging from small jobs ie 10 tonnes
upto jobs as big as 500 tonnes

i have only been going to college for the past 3 months as i have been on the dole and thought why not go
its free paper work so its an extra feather in my cap
this is the longest i have been out ov work and i must say i fecking hate it

oh and sorry matt im at paget rd m8 just off the tettenhall rd

maybe a case of the benefit of the doubt not being given .... your obviously ok with site/away work so you've a bigger oyster than most to play with. Fingers crossed and keep us informed

cheers m8 that is only a snippet ov my cv as ive been on the beer lol
but tbh i can get refrences galore if people need them it just seems as tho
people dont want to give me the time ov day at the moment
ive got something in the pipeline as they say as they current welding course im on has been arranged by a major company that is well known in the welding game but i dunno if i want to go and work for them as i dont feel that comfortable working on such big projects just incase i fall flat on my face
even tho i know i can do it
