Hello Mig Welding forum

Hello everyone,

my name is Jon, I've beenwelding and fabricating for about 5 years now, got into it so I can build cycle frames, I have my own workshop, Lorch V30 AC/DC tig welder, Boost Energy Phase Converter, precision lathe, milling machine, 5' by 3' surface table, metrology etc.

I have experience welding any thing from banks of bispoke Switch Gear Housings, staircases, 22 guage stainless canopies, industrial kitchen units, huge stainless door and window frame units, I spent a year and a half as a precision braze welder for Brompton Bicycle ltd, and right now I'm just finishing up a contract for Pedibus/Party Bike fabricating 6 space frame aluminium chasis. Sadly I'm not coded as yet but do have my Awarding Bodies Consortium cert to show I can prove out my welds in Mig Tig and Oxy-acet.

I'd really like to get some structural and aerospace experience, and take some welder aproval certs too.

I hope I don't get done by the mods for advertising?!

But I could really do with some pointers from any one who knows of any steel or ally tig or mig or brazing jobs coming up in London or London south eat area soon as the markets looking pretty bleak on the job front, and i'm starting to panic!!

Help please.

Also any pointers on how to get coded through a job or without spending £ thousands?

Welcome to the forum Jon, your work is probably a bit specialised for the vast majority on here, but hang around, it would be interesting to see some examples of your work.

Hi Jon, welcome to the forum.
You sound like you've had plenty of experience!
This is mainly a DIY forum though we have several pros on here as members.
We don't have a jobs section on here though we're often visited by new members wanting the odd job done, as you've already noticed. They're mostly tea money jobs like that unfortunately, either that or someone wanting their car welded for a case of beer!
Have you looked over on UK welder? It can be a bit like a lion's den I believe but they do have a jobs section which might be of use to you.

Shox Dr I hope I can pick up a few things I love learning new things tips tecniques etc, and please feel free to ask questions, I have been spending a lot of time making purge assemblies and playing withsettings for pused tig for the .9mm 4130 for my bike frame.

Welder Paul I can show a few bit if I can upload photos, some things are off limits due to confidentality agreements! The Lorch is AMAZING, it can truely hold an arc at 3-5 amps with the right prep on a tungsten, it's very consistant, adjustability is very in depth and programable. I'd recomend them to any one who can go the extra£££ for one, it was that or a fronius or a miller for me. The down side is that I had to spend a huge amount on my rotary phase convertor to run it as it's 3 phase only. Of you want any specific info just ask.

Wozzaaah, thanks, I don't mind doing the odd job to help people so long as it doesn't cost me too much in gas or require ordering consumables, who are the other pros on here? not that I call my self a pro, any one aerospace/coded or a welding Eng/metalergist? Have looked on Uk welder, even though I know I can achive code if trained and tested I felt a little dissaffected by the kind of jobs I saw there in the past, it feels like the "code" requirement which is really just working in a set way within peramiters and not that elite compared to an average to good welder is oly accesible if your apprenticed/in the club or flush enough to pay TWI etc to get certified. Just can't seem to break through the barrier?! Sorry a little rant there.....
