Hello to everyone. Another newbie here.
A friend from work was parting with an old AC arc welder, well it would have been rude not to I've always wanted to try welding but have never managed to get up the courage to buy one and have a go. A free one seemed like a reasonable place to start.
Well I spent quite a bit of time reading the tutorial on here about arc welding and gave it a go. I have ended up getting some reasonable results, enough to patch up a few bits on the Dandy trailer tent my brother and I recently purchased (mig would have been better but it was done outside and I have yet to take the mig plunge). It's a 1989 vintage so there were a few bits needing patched, I've done enough for it to be sound, but once I have a mig rig I'll bring it up here get it in the barn along at the farm and do a bit more work on it. I'll admit the old welder isn't the easiest to use but if I'm going to buy a mig set up I'm not going to go and buy a new inverter arc welder as well. Well not for the minuet anyway
Oh I should warn you all now that I do ramble on at times (if you hadn't already noticed). I've read the mig tutorial a couple of times now and am on the verge of ordering a Parweld XTM 171C from Steve (weldequip).
Hopefully between the 2 I'll be-able to sort my dad and brothers boat trailer!
Oh I should probably say, I'm an engineer by trade, I work on aircraft, doing a fairly fantastic equal time on and off so should have plenty of time to get practicing!
All the best
Malcolm
