Hiya folks

Just thought I'd pop in and greet you all.... just about to embark on a bit of automotive welding, I'm the proud owner of a rather rusty Astra GTE which needs both sills and a couple of patches. Garage quoted me £600 so I drove it home and decided to save myself some cash!

I also have a Volkswagen Type3 but surprisingly for a 35 year old car it's in far better nick than the Vauxhall, and all that needs welding is some bespoke seat mounts.

I've got myself a Mig welder, bought from a friend, which I'm told is a Sealy 150A jobbie. To be honest I've not unboxed it yet! You'll know as soon as I do as I'll start posting lots of newbie questions in the newbie forum

Do you remember the really old Vauxhall's though ? the ones with the fins and chrome strips all over the place ? like the Wyvern and such. I wonder if any of them ever did survive longer than a few years. Used to go pretty fast, probably because there was so little weight in them

My old man had a Vauxhall Magnum. Loads of knobs and dials and no leg room in the back! Can't go back much further than that though Cappy.

How about a Vauxhall VX4? You're looking at early 70's Vauxhall build quality, yet they can do 0-60mph in one second, 0-140mph in 5 seconds and a standing 1/4 in 7.8seconds, terminating at 183mph. Well, certainly one of them can!

Run by a chappy called Andy Frost, it's totally 100% street legal and MoT'ed, those numberplates aren't just for laughs. The quickest street legal car in the world is a Vauxhall.....!

Seen that Calibra run at Santa Pod, and it's quick and definately street legal (it's in the class where they have a late-night drive out to fill up with petrol and do some hot starts) but the Ventora has been credited with "Worlds Fastest Street Legal Car" in far too many magazines to be wrong Maybe the title changed recently? It was somewhere around a couple of years ago when I watched the Calibra run.
