Hello there, I've been lurking around these parts for a little while, and thought it best to join up
My background: I'm somewhat of a car nut, and my current car is an MGF 1.8 VVC - here's a pic of it from last year:
Anyway, the 1.8 engine it isn't in the best state - with a bit of a piston slap style death rattle at certain revs/loads, so I am slowly working on replacing it with one of these:
That's a 2.5 V6 out of a ZS180 It's been done before too:
I've got a rear subframe, and made a start by getting the engine mounted - fabricated a mounting bracket to hold the engine on the front side, and I'm using the original gearbox mounting bracket at the rear:
I'm using a well worn SIP Migmate - which is quite frustrating to use as the feed mechanism is pretty knackered, which certainly doesn't help with the weld appearance.
And that's why I'm here! I've got to the stage where I'm fitting the exhaust manifolds, and have needed to do a fair amount of chopping of the subframe, just to fit the rather horrible originals, so I'm thinking I should buy a TIG welder and make up my own - which means I can get them to fit much closer to the engine, and need less room to fit.
So watch out for silly questions and my waffle in the coming weeks
Brian.
