Hello everyone,
I guess I should introduce myself. I got a bit excited yesterday and jumped staight in and posted in the TIG section, sorry should have posted here first.
I used to do a fair bit of welding in my old job. We had an ancient Oxford oil filled arc set for the hardcore stuff, a Cebora MIG that we modified to sort out the wire feed and added a euro style torch and we had a really lovely Lincoln AC/DC tig. Oh and we had one of those little rainbow inverter stick/tig jobs. It was lovely on stick but a pain on tig with the scratch start and of course no ac for ally.
Was never any good on ally with the tig but loved doing stainless and the odd brass or copper stuff.
Anyway I havnt done much for a year or so apart from sticking bits of bike and landrover back together with my mates SIP mig. So I thought I would start out the hard way and build a TIG from scratch
I have considerable experience in electronics and im a professional sparks by trade. So I guess jumping in the deep end is the way to go. I know for the amount of labour and the total cost over time I would be better with a cheap Chinese set but I really want all the features of the Lincoln and cant afford the price (3 grand). I could just save all the odd tenners and occasional 50 quid purchases but I like to make stuff. So Im getting stuck into it now
Thanks Matt.
