Hi Everybody,
Just joined the forum as I have bought a second hand Cosmo 145 welder, and found this great resource while looking for information about it.

So, after buying the welder I see that it might not have been the best ebay impulse buy, but it was only £75. I have already ordered the parts to modify the wire feed supply, and will add the metal strap between the feed rollers to improve the wire feed issues, as the rollers were left under tension and are showing signs of twisting.

I have ordered a good quality auto mask and some other consumables, so as soon as they arrive, I will be trying out some test welds. I am new to welding in any form, so will be practicing over the next few months until the time I am ready to start welding up my Jaguar XJ12 Coupe restoration project. Hopefully I will be able to iron out all the kinks in the Cosmo welder by then.

So far I have been really impressed with the forum, I hope I will be able to contribute in some way in the future.

Hi JV, and Welcome to the forum

The Cosmo might not be best buy but at £75 it should be good value by the time you have made a few necessary improvements. Looks like you have researched the jobs needed on it, so that's a good start. Any problems you have, there's a whole lot of helpful folks on here, so you're in good company.

Get in plenty practice, and Good Luck with the Jag Resto project!

Welcome to the forum, at least if you get the Cosmo going ok you have a bargain and something to learn with, don't be surprised though if you soon start fancying something of a bit better quality..it happened to me and I daresay a lot of others here.

As cumbriasteve said, you may well get the itch to buy something better, but all the modifications listed on this site will improve your welder no end.

I was lucky to stumble on an old BOC/Cebora 130 as my first MIG and I had to do some repairs to that to get it working properly.
