Hi Kyle, I don't want to come across as a smart alec but what is the spelling and grammar like in your CV - did you get someone who is good to proof read it for you?
Good Luck.
Graham has a good point and like myself is mentioning it because he is only wanting to help you.
I am finding this a little difficult to write because I don't wish to offend you but here goes.....
Your post has a few minor 'wording' mistakes in it, we don't care one bit about that here and it's nice you have joined but if your CV is similar then it will give you problems
I was involved in apprentice selection before I retired and the initial criteria that the selection board was very strong on was the detail of the CV presented by the applicant.
It is the first impression you give, apprenticeships are no longer all welding and hammering steel, there is a lot of paperwork and qualifications to pass, if you present a CV with spelling or abbreviation mistakes it will mark you down.
You may think that's unfair but it's the way of the world and not a thing you can do about it.
When I write on this forum I often make spelling mistakes, if the writing was as important as a CV I would as Graham mentions have it checked for me, in fact there is help now available with most Job Seeker type places where someone with experience will help you produce a professional CV.
Get a really good accurate CV done, one page is usually enough and should never be more than two, when you get the offer of an interview come back here for advice or even PM me and I will give you some help with the correct approach for a decent interview.
Just realised you are from Cumbria too, you will probably know the biggest industrial site in Cumbria that I worked at, we handled up to 100 apprentices a year.
Tell you what I will do..not sure where you live but if it helps and you are not too far away, if you want a good CV done I am willing to help you produce it if you can't find anyone handy.
Thanks Chunko.. When doing the job I was always impressed by someone who 'has a go' and does not sit back expecting the world to give them a living, hence the offer made.
Thanks for the advice everyone! I'm going to get somebody to have another look at my cv. I have had good feedback from it recently so I don't think that's the problem but it's worth a try.
Thanks for the offer cumbriasteve, I live in Millom.
Ah..a bit far away, I am Whitehaven, the offer still stands for some interview advice though when the time arrives.
Some small tips on your CV:
Don't fill it with all your schools attended, no one's interested which infant school you went to, just your final school and results.
Don't state you enjoy playing rugby or football, surprising how many employers see that as a negative, they are of the opinion you will lose time due to sport injury.
Keep it spaced well and visually easy to read in a flowing manner.
Don't forget most people tell the occasional porky to enhance their CV, this is obviously not the right thing to do but you are competing with them so alls fair in love and war, just don't make any claims you can be caught out on.
A positive is to mention you enjoy learning anything to do with computers or if you already have PC skills, make sure you mention them
If you take a good photo, put it in the top right corner of the CV, gives it a personal touch...if you take a photo like I do..don't bother..you don't want to scare them
If you have it on your pc and went to email me it to proof read that's fine by me.
Did you apply for the Sellafield intake this year or is it too far to travel?
