I have been visiting this forum since I bought a 1977 Mini last year. There isn't a lot to weld......or so i thought. As i took more bits off, rubbed down panels my plan to get a simple re-spray, having added a small amount of filler, polish a few nuts and change the oil went out of the window. Am now going the whole hog. Full strip down, mount on a rotisserie, re-paint and re-build
I have done a night school in welding (total of 10hrs) which covered MIG/MAG, Arc and Oxy, great fun and instructive.
I have bought a Migtronic Rally 166 off e-bay. I designed a simple A-frame rotiserie and attended my friendly scrappy. I found an old TV and video stand on large castors, stuck a bit of scaffold pole in place of the usual thin metal pole, found another bit of pipe to go on top at right angles to take the spit. Presto - one end of the spit.
I could only get galvanised box section for the other end. Read lots about welding galvanised...i.e don't. Spent a long time grinding off the galvanise in the right places. Welded it together .....
