Hi, my son is interested in getting into welding, he is 17, we live in rural area, with loads of farmers always getting exaust fixed, or something or other welded, my question is this, which one is best for him, his mate has an invereter arc welder, he repairs motor bikes, quads, and so on, this is what he plans to do too earn a few shillings.all practical advice welcome. thanks.

again thanks, he is a teenager and impulsive, hence my questions, it is clear that he should get some lessons, so that is my intention, I will also look at the inverter you mentioned, there are probable loads of different ones, or are some better than others, is thre a best one for the job, or are they basically the same.

Well a 140-180 amp mma inverter appears to be the common weapon of choice around farms
Tractors, combines gate repairs etc this is perfect for and like I say it will easily go anywhere with half a dozen sticks in your pocket.
If your lad wants to get more involved with thin rusty body work repair then yes it is doable with mma but very difficult especially if out of position. A mig is more suited to that but far from as portable when you have gas and wire to consider also.
