Eyup all you welders (and like me wanna be welders)
I find myself in the fortunate postion of having a job that gives me plenty of free time so rather than sit around watching daytime T.V I have decided to learn how to weld as I have a few projects I want to get underway. I was offered a Clarke 160EN at a very reasonable price and have spent all day trying to weld strips of 2mm flat together all day. I have struggled with getting penetration but not blowing holes. Any advice?
Anyway I have now run out of wire so, having been a mechanic in a former life, I have taken the opportunity to pull it apart to see how it works. Some kind sole has already fitted a steel wire liner so that's a bonus. Now I need some more wire. Does anyone know where is the best place to buy and what is the largest spool size I can fit?

Welcome mate

your not running the welder off an extension lead are you? That machine should be well capable of turning 2mm into swiss cheese

As for the wire i have no idea as im in a different country im sure someone local to you will be able to advise

Go to a proper welding supplier rather than a large red hobby shop, you'll get a better quality product.

If you want to go mail order look for DIY Welding or Weldequip in the members list, they should sort you out.
