Help me choose,new 4hp 200l compressor

Gonna push the boat out and go for a 200l 4hp compressor from machine mart because I have a vat free voucher ,narrowed it down to 2....

first link is slightly cheaper ,states british made,and is heavier, second says industrial but there is more plastic on the second compressor,can anyone shed some light as to why the second is more expensive?...or if its a better buy?...anyone?

No idea to be honest they are both same cfm and receiver capacity. Just go for cheaper one unless they can convince you different in shop. At least the saving pays for delivery.

Correction
First compressor....states...."British Built" not "British Made" parts are assembled here not necessarily made here if your lucky the compressor pump unit will be Italian made other part who knows?

But MM/Clarke are a well know brand so shouldn't be a problem, I doubt theres much if any difference between them, buy which ever one they have in stock or ask for a discount if they only have the more expensive one in stock on the night....

Cheers guys ,I couldn't see much difference either ,unfortunatley I'm on nights till tuesday (6pm-6am)so I can't go and pick up ,so I will rely on their delivery system,but nearest shop must be 30+ miles so £25 isn't so bad....

I have got a number for their tech people and will ring them when they open mon ,but I can't see any good reason to spend the extra

Ive had the 14cfm ver since 05 no probs at all, use it daily for all sorts inc sanding etc. I also have the 50l ver in another workshop also just as good. I do drain them now and then as well as change the oil just to keep them tip top.

The more expensive one specifically mentions "Slow Running" and the cheaper "Cast iron cylinders", although I'm pretty sure they'll both have the cast iron cylinders.

I would make sure you get one with cast iron cylinders.

Rtb,cheers Roger,they don't give much away do they .....my list of questions for there tech dept grows...I've even been checking out their spare 18cfm pumps trying to get answers,the cheaper link in OP may be 2 stage and they are both dual cylinder...and cast

I shouldn't think the more expensive compressor will be 2 stage, they are normally used for higher pressures.

I thought it was strange,maybe its a mistake in that list but the cheaper 18cfm says dual stage?...strange they don't give the noise levels either,I would have prob chosen the quietest

In the OP the compressors are described as twin cylinder, not two stage.

The pumps described as two stage in post #11 won't be the pumps fitted to those compressors.

Makes more sense to be twin cylinder ,I did make the assumption they would offer the pumps they use on the models they assemble,in fairness they do look similar to the pumps fitted to the 18cfm compressors......another question for their techies

I think the 2 stage are just an extension to the range as fitted to their compressors.

I do remember asking their tech dept what was the difference between the 16 and the 15 ones, their answer then was one is Italian and the other made in PRC, would be interesting to know what the difference is now. do ask what rpm the compressor pump runs at as well, some say slow running pumps but might be spinning at around 1300rpm, which to me isn't slow, but it is against a direct drive though (clever marketing), which means they only run with synthetic oil which is as you know dearer for the oil change/top ups.

Just ordered the se18 or more expensive 18cfm compressor,when talking to their techie,he confirmed the se19 is a cheaper chinese sourced pump and the se18 is Italian.

He described the Se18 as the compressor they have sold for a while ,very reliable,and described the se19 as the cheap chinese pump

The separate pumps for sale are the same as the assembled compressors so the se18 uses the mk113 pump sold for £252 inc.

delivery £21 for 3-5days or £25 for next day

Sounds great, I bought one of their tool cabinets last time I got a VAT free voucher, hopefully get another one in a few months time as already thinking about a few other things to buy.
