I use a mighty mite 110v AV 70AMP ARC Welder and 6011 rods.. Rods are approximately 8 yrs old. I strike an arc but it keeps sticking at 40 to 70 amps.

What size rods?
Those smaller arc welders have a lower voltage and don't maintain an arc real well.
I'd try some 5/64 or 3/32 6013 rods. The 70A max setiing is the recommended current for 3/32 6013's. They are much easier to use. Stay away from no-name cheap rods, they are harder to use.

Get a better welder or rods that will work on lower currents.
HomerD has Lincoln Electric 3/32 6013's. Although, 5/64 would be better or even 1/16", they are harder to find.
I have some 6011 rods; I would never want to learn on them. They work well on my 750lb beast of a welder. I doubt they would work at all on small buzz boxes.

As Shenion says, can you upload pics to the forum server rather than 3rd party hosting sites please? It makes threads a lot easier for people to read and comment. 
My suggestion is to get some proper steel to practise on, those old hand-tools are no good whatsoever, especially as some of them look like they're plated.

6011s are designed to work on ac as well as dc (unlike 6010 which are dc only) but still need a high OCV. Your Mighty Mite won't be able to run them. You've also not said what size the rods are... 3/32 rod will work on the current you have available, but more volts are required!
