Hi I am 22 years old and working in fabrication workshop and I want to get in the welding side of it all. I do a bit of welding at work and just finished my abc awards level 2 for mig mag and tig welding. I need pointing the right way, what the best welding jobs are and how do I get there and where do I start?

I was trying for years to better myself in my employment, My name got mentioned in a conversation and in the space of a month I nearly doubled my money and I am now about to be off around Europe and the middle east doing my Job. So keep at it. I can't answer your question on which aspects of the welding world are the best and offer the most money but hopefully someone can help.

You have several considerations but I always think the main one is where are you prepared to work, if you want to stay local then that will impact on what is available to you.
If however you are prepared to travel then a whole wide world is out there, even in the UK good prospects will exist with the new build power stations, the big money though is for those who obtain the top skills and travel worldwide or offshore.
I am not up to speed with all the qualifications but all you have to do is look for welding jobs here and abroad and see what the minimum qualifications are they require.

Start by getting proper qualifications, which you might need to pay for. Without qualifications, its likely to be difficult to get any sort of job without a strong leaning toward the mig monkey side of things. Other alternative is to get yourself a Tig welder, teach yourself how to use it properly, and get involved in part time work from home evenings and weekends. Someone is advertising fin replacement on motorcycle heads and cylinders at £70 a fin, and that sort of work is pretty easy, and is certainly something that can be done from a small garage or even a garden shed.
