Help to ID this Mask Please

I bought this mask at an auction on thursday for £19 - took a chance as it didn't seem to work. Tried it out today and it darkens when you start welding, though it did flicker a few times. New batteries plus a few hours in the sun should sort that. It has a large viewing area of 96x60mm and a crystal clear view and as a bonus it cam with 5 spare outer covers and 2 inners!







The only name I can see is Miller but no model number. It feels like a good quality mask - the headband is the most comfortable I've ever used and feels so solid.

So can any of you id the model of this mask as I would like to source a manual.

2nd gen Miller elite. i had a 1st gen for nearly 10 years till it died. New batteries and leaving it in the sun didn't fix it so I converted it to fixed shade. Be warned, not good for overhead stick as the front cover can trap slag.

Any of the 2nd generation Miller elite I've found online seem to be digital with lcd screens & touch buttons, was there an earlier analog version with knobs?

I need to know the recommended settings for different processes & amps/voltage settings and what each knob/button does. All you can adjust on my old Chinese mask is the shade, this one has 3 knobs and 1 button. It's over 10 years since I used a decent mask, a speedglass, and even then I just messed around with the knobs until I got a setting that worked with little understanding of what I was doing.
Using this mask with the incorrect settings could cause it to continually flash leaving you with sore eyes or a painful case of welders eye.

No, that's a Miller 'digital elite'... The original elite came in 2 generations. One that you had to turn on where the push button said 'on'. The 2nd gen was auto on but with a reset mode, and the button said 'reset'.

No, it won't because even when it is off it will block all of the UV which is what causes arc eye.

Trust me, you don't need a manual to use one of these. If you do, then you probably need a manual for how to open the front door to your house, put your socks on etc. Shade 11, sensitivity high enough that the lights in the workshop don't make it go active, minimum delay. Doing fine stainless tig, shade 9.

The module in that is the same as mine, not sure if the lid is the same though, it was bought as a gift by my other half, with my credit card obviously.

I have the instruction book that came with it, found it the other day when sorting stuff out. Will have a look for you see if there is any info on settings, dont recall any though.

Now who stocks the head bands mine needs a new one

If you can get that going spot on you've just secured a very expensive clean looking mask for the price of a steak meal!
You cannot get arc eye through it... As Hugh said its not possible whether it reacts or not so don't be frightened to put it to test. You don't need a manual mate there are no rules on mask settings. You simply adjust it up till you like what it's doing. If it's darkening before you arc up turn the sensitivity down. If it's too slow at returning to normal state after welding turn the delay down etc.
I use shades 10-12 depending on current but my eyes are still in a fit state always start at too high a shade and work down. Hope you get her going looks a decent mask (baring the graphics lol).

Well I quite like the graphics. Looked in the instructions and plenty hse , plenty warning or life death and disfigurment. How to change batteries etc, but nothing specific on settings.

I had a couple of cases of sore eyes after using my chinese mask without realising it had flat batteries, so you can understand my concern. With this being a top quality mask I have more confidence with trying out different settings. Thanks for the basic settings, I'll try those & go from there.

Thanks for clarifing that. I just did some checking and the spare cover kit I got with it is £15 so the mask only cost me £4! Have you any idea how much the mask cost new?

I found several places selling new headbands for miller masks, here's one.

As for the graphics, I'm not really sure yet but by the virtually unmarked condition the mask was rarely used or the guy took great care of it! I can always strip the graphics off & turn it into a plain blue mask!
