Help with course Questions!

I`m doing course for a MIG/MAG and I got a booklet with qestions to answer, I stuck on few questions.
Anyone could help me ?

State what feature of the MIG process and hence the benefit you would put forward to meet the following situations!
a) client wishes to weld many different thickness of mild steel.

b) client must make sure that the beams he is welding are straight ...

c) Client companies of slag inclusions in his weld ...

d) client complains that he has difficulty in getting skilled welder s ....

Only my own answers but not conclusive proof of being correct!

a) with adjustment of power settings and different gauges of wire, a range of metals can be welded with MIG, even just changes power settings will allow a good range of metal thickness to be welded.

b) (assuming straight after welding as well as before, MIG is quick to weld metals and this can mean less overall heat in the metal to cause distortion. Not happy with this answer to get a similar weld bead in metals I would say is the same heat from all processes, but MIG is faster so possible less heat build-up.

c) The is no slag produced covering the weld and cleaning up after mig welding is quick and clean (A caveat here, MIG can leave Silicon deposits on the weld as the silicon fuses out of the welding wire and soot can be produced around the weld as well as typical spallter, but can be a lot cleaner then Stick or MMA).

d) ( I must be very careful here so taken this from a book that talks of welding processes). Skill level of MIG welding is less then that of TIG and MMA.

I think he should have been paying attention on the course and that "making use of internet resources" or however they phrase it, can hardly be extended to asking a forum for the answers.

it must be nice for people doing exams nowdays . multi choice questions and the internet . all i got was the exams after writing up on subjects over the year single question answers and no calculaters could be used

Yes, only the issued books of tables and slide rules may be used, but the examiners will tape over any information on the back. No booklets of formulae are allowed....

However the system had to adjust to calculators and later the internet. The people who design and examine these courses are not simple, they are in fact up to speed and may even be members or lurkers on here. This interweb thing hasn't passed them by nor have they overlooked its potential. They can use Google and to publish word for word, or near word for word, a list of questions and to canvass answers, is just asking for trouble.

Looking at the Mig weld it looks a bit like a cold weld to me, in that, the edges of the weld just look to be sitting on top of the metal, in that it has not bonded with the metal underneath. I would say not enough current for the thickness of metal or too much filler and speed. Hard to tell as I am not a real welder just a learner like yourself, so I try and answer questions and see if I get pulled to pieces by the time served and properly trained guys on here.

Ignore the naysayers, you will always get detractors taking the post the wrong way and looking for things to have a go at.

You can't be a million miles away from me well about 20 at a guess, what machine do you have at home or is it training to get into the industry?

doing some 10mm plates today.
Still learning to adjust the voltage and wire speed
Last day of course tomorrow :/ and I think I'm doing well.

Ok, bad start (looks cold and inconsistent and a bit fast on travel speed) and finished with a clean break (backtracking will fix the exit divot) seems a little excessive on the spatter (again mostly early doors as was the cold look , was it a synergic set so it altered settings as you got past that bit and it fixed it for you?). In all though certainly getting there Further than that hard to say without close up look, looks are sometimes deceptive.

Right, it's an introductory course, an outline of MIG and a bit of hands on.

The talk of client complaints is a bit misleading. What the questions are asking about are the basic pros and cons of various aspects of MIG, short-cicruit, spray transfer and pulsed, plus shielding gases and I suppose flux-core gas shielded. I don't think that flux-core unshielded has many trade/industrial applications.

They really should have told you this stuff, or given you reference materials, or at least references for looking up what you want to know.

There are a lot of YouTube videos on welding.

A lot of short videos by Miller

and others

And a lot of stuff by WeldingTipsAndTricks such as.

Also, The Welding Institute, Miller, Lincoln and others have a lot of basic information on their websites.
