I've got a Hydrovane HV01rm that is approaching two years old.
It's started making a hard rattle/clatter when it's running.
I previously had issues with the unit not getting hot enough to boil off any condesation inside the airend and had a shortrun auto timer fitted.
I investigated the noise by firstly checking the oil level and found it under pressure and emulsified. I drained the oil and a good 300ml of water came out first.
I checked out the short run auto timer operation and could not get it to run the compressor, unfortunatley it was set to come on during the evening when no one was about so it looks like for the last 9 or so months that it wasn't doing it's job.
I've been advised(a telephone diagnosis) that the airend is probably beyond repair and that a replacement will cost £1k (not far off the price of a complete unit).
1) Does anyone know what a stripdown/rebuild of an airend would cost?
2) Are exchange units available and if so how much?
3) I'm pretty competant with most mechanical things and have read through the service manual, is it worth me dissasembling the airend and checking out the condition of the rotor/stator and reassembling?
Are the service tools listed in the manual essential items? and if so are they available to purchase from anywhere?
