Help with Metal Lacquer?

Hi all,
Need to pick your brilliant brains.
I am regularly making things in mild steel and want to protect them with some form of polyurethane lacquer?
Any product suggestions?
I would prefer paint on, as new at spraying, but spray could be considered.
I purchased a little can from the hardware store recently for £7, surely there are more economical ways for bulk?

Clear lacquer and mild steel?
something of a holy grail.
This has been discussed here in the past, a forum search should find it.
I remember somebody reccomending floor varnish, but I have found that lacquers do not like the sunlight and rain, once they start to fail you have a horrible mess that gets worse and worse and is probably nigh on impossible to remove.
Indoors lacquers and waxes are fine. Have a look at Jade Oil, i use that on work that lives indoors, Danish Oil also works well though it scratches easily while Jade Oil leaves a resin that seems to self heal when scratched.

Excellent thanks very much, I am only making items for indoors. Outside I would use stainless, alluminium or get it galvie dipped. I will look at Jade Oil, sound good.
